Joseph Kevin Hennessey, 57, of Marion, died Friday, Aug. 29, 2014, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Marion. The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, with a Scripture service beginning at 7 p.m. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his sister, Erin (Kevin) Noah of Cedar Rapids; brother, Jeff Hennessey of Marion; niece and nephews, Jason, Justin and Lesley Hennessey; aunts, Mary Elizabeth (Dick) Vallerie and Maureen Miller; and numerous cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Pat and Dan.
Joe was born Jan. 19, 1957, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Robert George and Rita Marie (Power) Hennessey. He graduated from Marion High School in 1976. Joe worked for Hennessey Brothers Construction. He also was a union member and worked for several excavating contractors in the Linn County area. Joe enjoyed working on farms, especially running equipment. He liked to be outdoors, fishing and deer hunting. Joe also enjoyed several trips to the casinos, especially in Las Vegas. He liked bowling and cooking and loved his cats and dog.
