Combining exercise equipment

I used to have two benches in my home "gym." One was for dumbbell lifts (one small bar per hand), the other for barbell/straight-bar bench presses, and the likes.
During a recent move the movers disassembled the straight-bar bench. Looking at the pieces I started wondering: Could I actually combine the two and save some space?
Absolutely, I found after fiddling with the equipment. I put the dumbbell bench in front of the straight-bar bench's piece that holds the straight bar.
Now, when I need to use the straight bar I will just move the bench below the other piece.
Now, though, I'm wondering if that stand will be able to support a bar with 300 pounds of weights on it.
Not sure, but why worry about that right now. I can't remember the last time I lifted that much. :)
But, of course after writing that I had to test if that could be a problem. I used 135 and 205 pounds on the stand and it seemed stable enough to give this a try.
Honestly, I rarely ever go above 205 anyway.
