Walker, Kathryn Irene (Roshek) 'Kay'
Kathryn Irene (Roshek) “Kay” Walker, 98, of the Rehabilitation Center of Hampton in Hampton, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died at the Rehab Center on Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2010. Graveside services: 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home after 12:30 p.m. Saturday.
Survivors include a daughter, Pat Whipple and husband Bruce of Hampton; grandson, Mark Whipple and wife Jackie of Hampton; and a granddaughter, Erin Whipple of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings, Stella Meyer, Agnes Swatosh, Bertha Brown, Frank, Anton and Milo Roshek.
Kay was born Jan. 20, 1912, on the family farm in Victor, the daughter of Anton and Clara (Nowotny) Roshek. She attended kindergarten through the 12th grade at Guernsey Community Schools in Guernsey. While in high school Kay was a guard on the basketball team, graduating in a class of six in 1930. After graduation she moved to Cedar Rapids and later married John Walker on July 3, 1942. They were later divorced. Kay was a housekeeper, secretary at Wilson Packing Plant, and a receptionist-secretary at National Oats Co. from which she retired in 1978.
She moved to Hampton in 2001 to be closer to her family. Kay lived a long and full life. She enjoyed traveling, bingo, going out to eat and most of all spending time with her beloved family.
A memorial has been established in Kay's name.
