Graybeal, Dean
Dean Graybeal, 60, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, May 20, 2011, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha. Graveside services: 11 a.m. Monday, May 23, at Merle Hay Cemetery, Des Moines. Visitation: 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Lynne Hanlon of Cedar Rapids; stepdaughter, Andrea (John Be Guhn) Hanlon of Cedar Rapids; brothers, Marvin Graybeal of Berwick, Iowa and Kent (Jeanne) Graybeal of Tacoma, Wash.; stepsister-in-law, Kimina (Mark Donaldson) Bradner of Indianapolis; and a cousin, Gary (Judy) Herron of Altoona.
Dean was born Feb. 20, 1951, in Sioux City, Iowa, the son of Marvin and Mary Lou (Waitz) Graybeal. He graduated from Cedar Rapids Washington High School in 1969. Dean worked for Eagle Foods for 20 years until its closing. He then earned a degree from Kirkwood Community College and went to work for Cedar Rapids Community Schools as a custodian at Kenwood and Wilson schools.
He enjoyed music and collecting old records. Dean and Lynne enjoyed traveling and spending time with family.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Anna Purna Ghosh Foundation, Hospice of Mercy, the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, or the American Cancer Society Relay for Life.
A very special thank you to Dr. Ghosh and his staff at Iowa Blood & Cancer, the staff at Hospice of Mercy and the hospice house, and the many friends who provided comfort and compassion during Dean's illness.
