Sweet, Verda V.
Verda V. Sweet, 89, formerly of Central City, died Sunday, Nov. 29, 2009, at Crestview Acres Nursing Home, Marion. Services: 2 p.m., Wednesday at United Church of Christ, by Pastor Mark Woldruff. The family will greet friends from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service. Burial: Oak Hill Cemetery, Central City.
Survivors include her son, Lawrence (Jean) Sweet of Central City; four grandchildren, Joey (Amanda) Barber of Monticello, Kimberly (Jason) Hartford of Central City, Lori (Rich) Hutchinson of Strawberry Point, and Gail (Steve) Morarie of Central City; five great-grandchildren, Derek, Val, Angel, Angie, and Dillen; and one great-great-grandchild, Madelyn; and three brothers, LaVerne Henderson of Marion, Clifford Henderson of Cedar Rapids, and Melvin Henderson of Central City.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Anna Barber; one brother, Emery Henderson; and two sisters, Gladys Vacek and Charlotte Wilson.
Verda was born Jan. 5, 1920, the daughter of John Clifford and Hazel (Smola) Henderson, in rural Central City. She married Bertie Sweet on Jan. 29, 1938, in Marion. He died Feb. 28, 1990.
