Groth Sr., Richard 'Dick'
He loved to travel on family vacations and enjoyed watching birds and wild life. Boxing and using his punching bag gave Dick the strength for his career as a farmer and butcher. Dick operated Shellsburg Frozen Foods, retiring in 1988.
He will be remembered as a strong, loving husband, father and grandfather with a great sense of humor and smile, and as an excellent meat cutter for the Shellsburg area.
Dick is survived by his wife, Martha of Shellsburg; his sons, Richard “Dick” (Carol) Groth Jr., and Donald (Cindy) Groth, both of Marion; his daughter, Sandy Koppen of Shellsburg; his grandchildren, Scott (Angela) Groth, Lisa (Curt) Switzer, Vicki (Jim) Wilson, Chad (Pamela) Groth, Mark (Leah) Groth, Peter (Erica) Koppen and Aaron (Holley) Koppen; and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two infant sons; one infant daughter; his sisters, Charlotte Alden and Jeanne Coberly; and his brother, David Groth.
Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church or the Shellsburg Food Pantry run by Grace Community Church, both in Shellsburg.
