BETTY ENGELHARDT

Betty Pauline Livingston Engelhardt, 88, of Elkader, passed away with God's grace on Monday, April 20, 2015. Funeral service: 11 a.m. Friday, April 24, at Peace United Church of Christ in Elkader. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 23, at Leonard Funeral Home in Elkader and one hour before service time Friday at the church. Interment: East Side Cemetery, Elkader.
Betty was born to Russell and Vergie (Wilson) Livingston on Nov. 29, 1926, in rural Highland Township. Betty married Allen Engelhardt on Feb. 24, 1945. Three children were born to this union, Marsha, Mark and Joyce. Betty lived in Elkader for more than 50 years.
She was a longtime member of Peace United Church of Christ and Royal Neighbors, both in Elkader. She worked as a cook at Central Community School for 22 years, retiring in 1988. Betty enjoyed seeing all of the children.
Betty loved her family dearly and enjoyed her many friends. Betty enjoyed filling everyone's tummies up with all her baked goodies, cookies, pies and lefse.
Left to cherish her memory are her beloved daughter, Joyce of Garnavillo; two grand-children, Christine (Mark) Berns of Farmersburg and James Grocholski of Volga; three great-grandchildren; her devoted sister, Sharon Bahls of Elkader; sisters, Gloria Dettman of Guttenberg, Jeanne Werges of Garnavillo, Beverly Beck of Prairie du Chien, Wis., and Linda French of Dubuque; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Allen on Aug. 30, 2002; son, Mark Allen in 1954; daughter, Marsha Grocholski in 2004; and brother, Kenneth Livingston.
