Robert Nathan Wilson, 80, entered into eternal rest on Sept. 21, 2018. Visitation will be at Grace Lutheran Church, Blairstown, on Sept. 25, from 4 to 7 p.m. Services will be held at Grace Lutheran Church on Sept. 26 at 10 a.m. Phillips Funeral Homes in Blairstown is in charge of arrangements.
Bob was born on Nov. 9, 1937, at home in Blairstown, Iowa, to Carl and Helen (Ransom) Wilson. He was baptized and confirmed at the Blairstown Presbyterian Church. He graduated from Blairstown High School in 1956, having lettered in baseball and basketball. Bob attended barber school and, on Oct. 20, 1959, he began barbering in Blairstown with his father at Wilson's Barber Shop. After 52 years, he retired in 2011 due to illness. Bob married Karen Swick in October of 1959; they later divorced.
Bob was a longtime member of the Belle Plaine Country Club, being a member of the men's league for over 50 years. He played golf 4 to 5 days a week. Any day above 50 degrees was a possible golf day. Bob was secretary-treasurer of the Blairstown Cemetery Association for 54 years, retiring in 2011. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, faithfully attending church and Bible study. After Bob's illness in 2011, he resided at the Keystone Care Center, "graduating" from their care to live independently again at an apartment in Keystone. Most recently, Bob was a resident of Living Center West in Cedar Rapids. He will be laid to rest back home at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Blairstown.
Bob is survived by his four children, Carlene (Greg) Silhanek, Keystone, Robert L. (Linda), Urbandale, Valerie Hermsen, Keystone, and Justin (Melissa), Muscatine; 16 grandchildren, Zach (Karen) Silhanek, Atkins, Jordan (Kim) Silhanek, Keystone, Jacqueline (Jeramy) Jones, Cedar Rapids, Tim (Betsy) Wilson, Britta (Collin) Ten Haken and Scott Wilson, all of Des Moines, Hunter, Luke, Keane and Ragan Hermsen, all of Keystone, and Tyler Howell, Gage Faust, Emma Faust, Chloe Faust, Jakob Wilson and Mackenzie Wilson, all of Muscatine; seven great-grandchildren, Brock, Lauren and Frank Silhanek, Atkins, Cheyenne and Cecilia Silhanek, Keystone, and Tinley and baby boy Jones (due December), Cedar Rapids; sister-in-law, Kathy Wilson, and niece, Elizabeth Norris, of Reno, Nev.; niece, Dr. Erika Wilson of Oregon; and nephew, Todd Rigley of California.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Jerry Wilson.
The family would like to thank Living Center West and Keystone Care Center for the outstanding care and friendships they have provided Dad over the years.
