Melba Sue Raisbeck, 71, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Tuesday, March 1, 2016, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Memorial Gathering will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 5, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion.
Survivors include her daughters, Vanessa Pollock (Mike Wirtjes) of Downers Grove, Ill., and Erica (Kyle) Menke of Burbank, Calif.; her grandchildren, Kaitlin Pollock of Burbank, Calif., Jacob Pollock of Fargo, N.D., and Olivia Menke, Grant Menke, Carl Menke and Veronica Menke, all of Burbank; stepgranddaughter, Megan Wirtjes of Downers Grove; and her sister, Shirley McFarland of Ottumwa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wesley Raisbeck; and one brother, John Ratliff.
Melba Sue was born April 19, 1944, in the state of Washington. She graduated from Ottumwa High School, then Buena Vista University with a bachelor's degree. Melba Sue married Wesley Raisbeck on Nov. 9, 1968. In her younger years, she was an avid fitness buff and often swam, walked and taught aerobics. She raised two young daughters on her own after the untimely death of her husband in 1977.
Melba Sue was an animal lover and generously donated to The ASPCA. She was a strong independent woman.
