Richard W. Derlein, 79, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, April 2, 2016, at West Ridge Care Center in Cedar Rapids. A visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 7, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. A private graveside service will be at a later date at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Certified Celebrant Jim Parton will officiate at the service.
Richard was born Sept. 11, 1936, the son of John and Ella (Bork) Derlein in Windsor, Wis. On Aug. 3, 1957, he was united in marriage to Joan Lund in McFarland, Wis. Richard co-owned Derlein Scale Co. from 1960 to 1978 and later went to work for Hawkeye State Scale as a salesman until retiring Jan. 1, 2016.
He enjoyed going to auctions and collecting Budweiser memorabilia.
Survivors include his wife, Joan Derlein; six children, Jeffrey (Robin) Derlein, Kristi (Perry) Perez, Brenda Derlein, Scott Derlein, Teresa Derlein and Michael (Deanna) Derlein; four grandchildren, Tyler Derlein, Logan Black-Marchand, Jennifer Wagner and Chad Derlein; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, George, Louise and John.
