DeNeve, Frederick 'Fritz'
Frederick “Fritz” DeNeve passed away June 17, 2012, in his home, with family surrounding him. He was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma four years ago. Visitation will be at Phillips Funeral Home in Keystone from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 19. A Scripture service will begin at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 20, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Van Horne with Father Jim Miller as celebrant. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery near Keystone.
He was born in Victor, Iowa, on March 4, 1935, to Herman and Clara DeNeve. At the age of 10 his family moved to a farm near Van Horne. On March 4, 1954, he married Shirley Covington at Immaculate Conception Church in Van Horne. They were blessed with three daughters: Julie, Cindy and Mary.
He loved playing Rolle Bolle, fishing and collecting model trains. He was an avid reader of World War II history. He served in the Navy Reserves for six years.
Fred worked hard and took great pride in his work as a painter for 55 years. Many homes in the area have been finished by him
His greatest pride was his family.
Fred was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Train Collectors Association.
Fred is survived by Shirley, his loving wife of 58 years; their daughters, Julie (Art) Helberg of Arvada, Colo., Cindy (John) Greteman of Carroll and Mary (Bob) Boots of Newhall; eight grandchildren and10 great-grandchildren, Jennifer (Ron) Schnoebelen, Seth, Rae Ann and Livia; Sarah (Ryan) Dollmeyer, Rowen and Maxton; Matthew Michalec (Amanda); Mark (Nichole) Greteman, Morgan Elizabeth; Lexie (Jeremy) Carlson, Cambria and Kazik; Josh (Ashley) Lund, Ava and Elijah; Jake Lund and Mandey Lund; his brother, Gene (Becky) DeNeve; his sister, Jo Ann McFarland; his brothers- and sisters-in-law, Ron Flickinger, Dick and Edna Mae Eldridge and Glenn and Nelda Covington; two aunts, Madeline Arnes and Della Walsh; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Pat Flickinger; nephews, Lanny DeNeve and Steve Eldridge; brother-in-law, Red McFarland; and in-laws, Carl and Nellie Covington.
He will be greatly missed by all who loved him.
