On Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2020, we lost the most hard-working, giving member of our family. Betty Jean Thomas passed away at The Bird House-Hospice Home of Johnson County from natural causes at the age of 92. Per her request, there will be no services.
Betty is survived by her children, Roger (Nancy) Thomas of Ottumwa, Iowa, Spencer (Jackie) Thomas of Marion, Iowa, and Amy Thomas of Iowa City; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her grandson, Zach Thomas.
The early years of her life were spent in the Alburnett area where she raised her family. Cedar Rapids became her home for years where she worked at Rockwell Collins and various other jobs. The last 10 years, she had resided in the Iowa City area living with her daughter.
Betty enjoyed watching anything involving sports as long as her beloved Iowa Hawkeyes were playing or her grandkids were involved.
Her family would like to thank the nurses at Mercy Hospital and the outstanding caregivers at The Bird House for their passionate care of Betty in her final days.
