Gladys Dorothy Marie Duppong, 86, of Iowa City, Iowa, passed away Saturday, Dec. 23, 2017, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in St. John UCC Cemetery, Hebron, N.D., at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to National Alliance of Mental Illness (NAMI) of Johnson County.
Gladys was born on Jan. 14, 1931, in Bismarck, N.D., the daughter of Albert Hoerauf and Dora Buchli. She graduated from Hebron H.S. in 1948 and attended Wahpeton State School of Science. Gladys was united in marriage to Nikolaus Duppong on July 3, 1954. They had three daughters together and later divorced. She was a secretary for the University of Iowa School of Dentistry for 23 years, retiring in 2000. Gladys enjoyed playing piano, exercising, watching movies and playing cards. Gladys loved traveling, including eight cruises with family and friends. She enjoyed living at Oaknoll Retirement Home for the past 11 years.
Gladys is survived by her three daughters, Scarlet Wilson (Bob) of Land O' Lakes, Wis., Joy Ng (Jackson) of Federal Way, Wash., and Darcy Pech of Des Moines, Iowa; one granddaughter, Morgan Pech of Kansas City, Mo.; special companion, Harvey Oehler of Amana, Iowa; and two siblings, Lyle Hoerauf (Lynda) of Hebron, N.D., and Hurdis Griffith (Ron) of Arlington, Va.
She was preceded in death by her two sisters, Ursula Kraenzel and Ruth Rehm; and two brothers, Roland and Willard Hoerauf.
