The discrimination of REAL ID

In answer to the letter from Howard Ashlock in the Nov 4 Gazette, I would like to let everyone know of the 'red tape.” I faced. When I went to get my renewal, I was required to have a certified copy of my birth certificate and a certified copy of my marriage certificate (even though I had had the same name for over 60 years), simply because it was different from my birth name (I was married at 17). Men do not have this requirement, all they need is a birth certificate. In 1958, a woman was supposed to change her name. It was unheard of not too. So Howard is correct it is a lot of 'red tape.” And any birth or marriage before certain dates have to be sent from Des Moines, your birth county will not have them. It is an insult to women that they require more proof than a man. My married name is on everything I have, but that is not good enough. It is on my Social Security card, etc., and you also have to present that.
