Brett Alan Folkedahl, 50, of Merrill, Wis., formerly of Blairstown, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2016, at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., after the utmost courageous battle with esophageal cancer. His final days were spent surrounded by friends and family at his side. Memorial services: 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, at First Presbyterian Church, Marengo, with Pastor Anni Mingin officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Blairstown. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 2, at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo.
A memorial fund has been established.
In addition, a celebration of Brett's life will be held Sunday, Sept. 11, at 2 p.m. at Rib Mountain State Park in Wausau, Wis.
Left to honor Brett and remember his love are his father, Nanford "Buck" Folkedahl; a second mother, Karen Dehning; a brother, Bradley (Tracy) Folkedahl; a sister, Nicole (Ron) Homire; three nephews, Gage Kensler, Joshua Kensler and Hunter Homire; a niece, Brittany Folkedahl; and his best friend and partner in life, Kelly Nolan.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Judith Selk Folkedahl.
Brett was born Nov. 10, 1965, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Nanford and Judith Selk Folkedahl. He graduated from Iowa Valley High School in 1984 and was employed at Amana Refrigeration for 10 years. Brett then managed and operated a horse sale barn, the Western Exchange in Belle Plaine, and was presently employed as sales manager of implement equipment for Vanderloop Equipment in Marathon, Wis.
Brett had been an avid horseman and outdoorsman since his childhood. He greatly enjoyed trail rides, riding in the mountains of Wyoming and Montana, as well as in the Dakotas, horse auctions and camping with his horse, dog and friends.
Having such a contagious personality, he was right at home wherever good friends or strangers gathered. He always will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor, honesty, integrity, gentle compassion, strong faith in God and his caring soul.
