Police: Marion teen injured when rifle discharges

MARION - A Marion teen was injured when a rifle discharged at a home in Marion, the bullet striking him in the lower back, according to authorities.
The Marion Police Department was called around 10:30 p.m. March 28, for a report of a 17-year-old male suffering from a gunshot wound and being treated at UnityPoint Health St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids.
Upon further investigation, police said Kyler Junkins, 18, was handling a .22 caliber rifle at his home in the 1900 block of Mary Drive in Marion when the weapon discharged, the bullet striking the 17-year-old, whose name has not been released. Police called the incident accidental.
The teen struck by the bullet is expected to recover, police said, adding the rifle was found at the home.
