Earl Wayne Selzer, 82, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Monday, Sept. 5, 2016, at Mercy Medical Center. A Celebration of Life gathering will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date in Fairfax Cemetery.
Wayne was born May 29, 1934, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Charles G. and Lillian (Holets) Selzer. He graduated from Cedar Rapids Roosevelt, class of 1952, where he participated in musicals as well as sports. He received a gold medal in the Drake Relays in track and field. After graduation, he attended Coe College and the University of Iowa. Wayne was united in marriage to Marilyn Brown on Sept. 5, 1954, at Trinity Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids. Wayne was a partner at Hall & Hall Engineering for over 40 years. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, gardening, watching the Cubs and spending time with his family, especially the grandchildren.
Wayne is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marilyn; two children, Steven Selzer of Des Moines and Lynda (Al) Selinger of Barrington, Ill.; four grandchildren, Alexis (Justin) Howard, Patrick (Kristen) Selinger, Allegra Selzer and Edythe Selinger; two great-grandchildren, Kahlan and Bryn Howard; and a sister-in-law, Dee Selzer of Alamo, Texas.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Max Selzer.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Iowa Donor Network in his name.
