Cynthia Christopher, 78, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Grinnell, went to be with the Lord on Monday, Sept. 24, 2018. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, at Blair Ridge Baptist Church, Cedar Rapids, conducted by the Rev. Troy Weigert. The family will greet friends one hour before the service at the church. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion.
Cynthia was born June 20, 1940, in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of William and Mildred (Hoffman) Forrest. On Oct. 28, 1961, in Chicago, she was united in marriage to John "Gil" Christopher. Cynthia received her RN degree from Swedish Covenant Hospital Nursing Program in 1961.
She was a member of Blair Ridge Baptist Church and a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church in Grinnell. Cynthia devoted her entire life to caring for others, including her involvement at Calvary Baptist Church as a Sunday school teacher, soloist and librarian. She also was a nurse at a special-needs camp in Clear Lake and a school nurse for the Grinnell-Newburg School District. But, her greatest love of all was her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and her family. She touched many lives in many ways and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her husband, Gil Christopher of Cedar Rapids; her children, John (Verna) Christopher of Des Moines, Eric (Mary) Christopher of Cedar Rapids, Thomas Christopher of Nashville, Tenn., and Amy (Matthew) Waln of St. Charles, Ill.; 12 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and siblings, Rhoda Rose of Milwaukee, Wis., and Sharon (Don) Bigelow of Ashland, Ohio.
Cynthia was preceded in death by her parents.
