Maher, Rita M.
Rita M. Maher, 81, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday Aug. 8, 2009, at West Ridge Care Center following a long illness. A visitation will be held Wednesday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Teahen Funeral Home.
Survivors include her daughter Penelope J. (Dale Swofford) Goodpasture of Port Charlotte, Fla.; sons Michael of California and Philip C. of New Brighton, Minn.; sister Joan (Ron) Abernathy of Barstow, Calif.; sister-in-law Sally J. Rummelhart of Grinnell; and her Scottish Terrier "Bridget" and her Betta Fish "Maxwell."
Rita was preceded in death by her husband Ernest K. Maher Jr., brother Mel, and niece Susie.
Rita Mary was born June 15, 1928, in Hills, IA, the daughter of Clair J. and Emma N. Shradel Rummelhart. She married Ernest Kenneth Maher Jr. at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. She was a member of the Friendship Force- Iowa Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, and Daughters of the Nile. Rita retired from Quaker Oats.
Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Mercy or the Cedar Valley Humane Society.
