Charles was born in Iowa City, Iowa, on Feb. 28, 1927, to Fred and Minnie Luettjohann and Robert Bolton. He attended school in Mount Vernon and joined the U.S. Navy in 1944, when he was just 16 years of age. Charles served our country for two years during World War II. In 1950, he married the love of his life, the late Mary Baker, in Tipton. Together they raised two children, Sandy and Deb.
Charles' employment, after being home from the U.S. Navy, began with the U.A.W. in Chicago and Cedar Rapids as a carpenter before joining International Harvester in East Moline as a millwright and union steward. He also was a current member of the Tipton VFW.
For enjoyment, Charles loved to golf and bowl, fish and deer hunt, host big fish fry parties and drink beer with his VFW buddies.
Charles is survived by his two daughters, Sandy (Dave) Petersen of Blairstown and Deb Schwitzer (Scott Meumann) of Tipton; four grandchildren, Kim (Jim) Lang of Nichols, Ryan Roszell of Hills, McKenzie Schwitzer of New York and Myles Schwitzer of Cedar Rapids; three great-grandchildren, Cody Martin of Iowa City, Alexis Martin of Iowa City and Nevaeh Trimble Roszell of Tiffin; and his four furbies, Izz, Marly, Charlie and Daisy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and brothers, Don and Delmar.
