Davis, Dorothy Helen Klaus
Dorothy Helen Klaus Davis, 92, of Anamosa, formerly of Mechanicsville, died Monday, Dec. 7, 2009, in St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, from a sudden illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday, Anamosa United Methodist Church, by the Rev. Laurie Riley. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Morgan Funeral and Cremation Choices, Mount Vernon, and for one hour before services Friday at the church. Burial in Zion Cemetery, Colesburg.
Surviving Dorothy are her husband of 63 years Robert; a daughter, Nancy (Dennis) Mulford of Anamosa; a daughter-in-law, Sharon of Marion; and four grandchildren, Sara Mulford of Leavenworth, Kan., and Tim (Mika) Mulford of Columbia, Mo., and Brian Davis and Christine Davis, both of Cedar Rapids; and two great-grandchildren, Dylan Davis and Paige Mulford.
Preceding Dorothy in death were her parents and her son, Steven.
Dorothy was born Oct. 26, 1917, at Colesburg, the daughter of Erwin and Florence Rolfing Klaus. She graduated from Colesburg Consolidated School and from Iowa State College with degrees in Institution Management and Dietetics.
Dorothy worked in the Food Service Department at Hillsdale College in Michigan, and the YMCA Cafeteria in Chicago.
She married her college sweetheart, Robert Davis after he returned from the service in 1946.
She was a lifelong, faithful member of various United Methodist Churches, United Methodist Women's groups, garden club, Mount Vernon Chapter of P.E.O. and a 4-H leader for many years.
Dorothy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She had a tremendous love for her family and was dedicated to their well-being. She enjoyed her home, friends, music and nature.
A memorial fund in Dorothy's honor has been established.
