Dorothy P. Smith, 96, died peacefully Friday, April 3, 2015, at Melrose Meadows. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Friday, April 10, at Newman Catholic Student Center, with Father Ed Fitzpatrick officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to the Newman Catholic Student Center or Systems Unlimited.
Dorothy was born June 25, 1918, in George, Iowa, the daughter of James and Mae Fahey Parden. She attended the University of Iowa. On Oct. 18, 1941, Dorothy married Charles A. Smith. They lived in Waterloo for many years, moving to Iowa City in 1997.
The family extends their appreciation to Dr. Richard Dobyns, the staff of Melrose Meadows and Iowa City Hospice.
Dorothy is survived by her three children, Steve (Mary) Smith of Iowa City, Ann (Ron) Tack of Marion and Liz (Terry) Lynch of White Fish Bay, Wis.; eight grandchildren, Jean (Nic), Tom (Andrea), B.J., Andy (Emily), Mark (Jaime), Kate (Wade), Ellie (Cesar) and Mike; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cherished friends.
Dorothy was preceded by her parents; her husband, Charles A. Smith, in 2012; and siblings, Mary Parden and Robert Parden.
