Dorothy D. Long, 98, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, Sept. 14, 2018, at Living Center West. A private family graveside service will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include her two daughters, Carmen (Everett) Schacht of Cresco and Corriene Kos of Cedar Rapids; and a brother, Larry Long of Cedar Rapids. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Gregory, Brian, Neil, Tom, Gayle and Mike; her five great-gandchildren, Amanda, Sarah, Kale, Nash and Dade; and two great-great-grandchildren, Jerra and Nathan.
Dorothy was born Dec. 7, 1919, in Mount Auburn the daughter of Homer and Irene Byous Coots. She married Carlos F. Long on Jan. 7, 1939, in Vinton. Carlos passed away in 1974.
Dorothy was an inspector at Collins and retired from there after more than 17 years of service. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, needlework, playing the piano and organ, as well as volunteering at Mercy Medical Center. Dorothy traveled with her sister and wintered in Arizona for several years.
She will forever be remembered as a wonderful wife, mother, sister and grandmother whose memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.
