Milford "Joe" Carroll Dorothy, 91, of Center Point, passed away Monday, July 16, 2018, at Emery Place, Robins. A parish vigil service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Friday, July 20, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Central City. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 21, at St. Stephens Catholic Church, Central City, conducted by the Rev. Nick March and the Rev. Wayne Droessler. The family also will greet friends one hour before Mass on Saturday at the church. Burial will take place at Troy Mills Cemetery.
Joe was born March 7, 1927, in Stockport, Iowa, the son of Mark and Macil (Carter) Dorothy. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. On Feb. 27, 1965, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, Joe was united in marriage to Marian Lea Huntington. He was a member of St. Stephens Catholic Church in Central City and Troy Mills American Legion Post No. 712. Joe was a longtime farmer in the Center Point area.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Marian Dorothy; son, Dennis (Brenda) Dorothy of Center Point; granddaughter, Elizabeth Dorothy of Center Point; brother, Myrlen (Kathy) Dorothy of Mount Pleasant; sister, Myrna Dietzman of Keosauqua; sister-in-law, Bette Huntington of Cedar Rapids; and half brothers and sisters, Jim, Jerry, Wendall, Janet and Sharon.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Mark and Macil Dorothy; and brothers-in-law, Joe Huntington and Donald Dietzman.
The family would like to thank the staff of Emery Place and St. Luke's Hospice for all the care they provided to Joe.
