Swehla, Emma May
Emma May Swehla, 83, died Sunday, March 20, 2011, at St. Anne Extended Health Care, Winona, Minn.
Emma was born on May 9, 1927, at Fort Atkinson, Iowa, to John and Rose (Ondrashek) Pavlovec. She married Robert Swehla on May 28, 1947, at Kirksville, Mo. They were later divorced.
Before moving to Winona in 1963, Emma had lived at Eldorado, Fayette and Decorah, Iowa. Emma worked as a supervisor in the dish room at St. Mary's University in Winona for 26 years. She also owned the Lattman Apartments in Winona.
She was a member of St. Martin's evangelical Lutheran Church and the Neville-Lein VFW Post #1287 Auxilliary.
She is survived by sons, Robert (Sharon) Swehla of Watkins, and David Swehla of San Diego, Calif.; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; very special niece, Barb (Ray) Halvorson; and niece, Bonnie Speltz.
She was preceded in death by brother, Richard Pavlovec; sister, Helen Chapman; and longtime friend, Sam Julson.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Martin-Myhre Funeral Chapel, Winona, with Pastor Tom Schoen, officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Winona.
