Donohoe, Dorothy
Dorothy Donohoe, 85, of Iowa City, died Friday, Nov. 20, 2009, at U of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics following a heart ailment. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Jeff Belger officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, Iowa City. Following the committal friends are welcome to attend a luncheon at the Kirkwood Room next to the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Dorothy was born April 22, 1924, in Nauvoo, Ill., where she was raised. On Feb. 10, 1947, Dorothy married Lyle G. Donohoe in Nauvoo. Lyle died Dec. 8, 2006.
Dorothy and Lyle farmed for many years near Parnell and Oxford. She was a longtime member of St. Mary's Church and the Altar and Rosary Society. Dorothy loved Iowa Hawkeye basketball and football and playing bingo.
Dorothy is survived by her two daughters and seven grandchildren, Becky Hyun of South Haven, Mich., and her children, Eric, Kim and Kris; and Bev Hamann of Iowa City and her children, Brian and Rachel (Josh) Cronan; daughter-in-law, Cyndie (Joe) Donohoe of Iowa City and their daughters, Cheney and Maria; and five great-grandchildren, Wyatt Cronan, Dylan and Meghan Hyun, Ryan and Conner Shimanek.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband; son, Joe; son-in-law, Don; and siblings, Tom, Francis, Eugene, Clark and Elizabeth.
