Snitil, Dorothy A.
Dorothy A. Snitil, 86, a resident of Northbrook Manor Care Center, died there late Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2011, following a brief illness. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, by Father Christopher Podhajsky. Burial: St. John's Cemetery. Papich-Kuba Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
Dorothy is survived by her nephew, Tom Zuber and wife Janet, Cedar Rapids; her niece, Patricia Starbuck, Portage, Ind.; five great-nieces and great-nephews; and three great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raphael “Ray” Snitil; her parents, Thomas F. and Elsie A. (Kokesh) Duda; her sister, Adaline Zuber; and her brother, Leo Duda.
Dorothy was born Nov. 17, 1924, in Belle Plaine, and graduated from Belle Plaine High School. She attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. Before her marriage Dorothy worked at Guaranty Bank and as an office manager for Smith Roofing Co. in Cedar Rapids. She married Raphael F. “Ray” Snitil on Oct. 2, 1954, at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Belle Plaine. Ray died June 21, 2010.
Dorothy was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. She was a talented seamstress and made many of her own clothes. Dorothy also enjoyed knitting, crafts, raising flowers and gardening.
Dorothy's family would especially like to thank the staff at Northbrook Manor and Hospice of Mercy for the loving care provided to her.
