Lane, Dorothy Alice
Dorothy Alice Lane, 93, of Traer, died Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, at Westbrook Acres Nursing Home in Gladbrook. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, at Traer United Methodist Church, 512 Fourth St., with the Rev. Kim Gates officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, also at the church. Interment will be in Buckingham Cemetery, Traer. Inurnment for Dorothy's son, James D. Lane, also will be held Wednesday, Feb. 13, at Buckingham Cemetery.
Dorothy was born Aug. 14, 1919, in Traer, Iowa, the daughter of Richard Paul and Bessie M. Harden Paul Bauer. She graduated from high school in Traer. On Aug. 13, 1937, Dorothy was united in marriage with Leonard E. Lane in Kirksville, Mo. The couple resided in Vinton immediately following their marriage. They moved to Traer in 1938. Leonard preceded Dorothy in death on March 3, 1998.
Dorothy was a school crossing guard in Traer for 15 years. She participated in nature studies and was a member of the Handicraft Club. She was also a member of Traer United Methodist Church.
Dorothy is survived by one son, Tom Lane of Vinton; one daughter, Marva Elfers of Junction City, Ore.; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, James D. Lane; grandson, Donald L. Lane; brother, James Paul; sister, Jane Goodwin; and daughter-in-law, Darrellene Lane.
A memorial fund has been established.
Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home of Vinton is caring for Dorothy and her family.
