Lloyd D. Bean passed away peacefully on Oct. 3, 2020, surrounded by family. Visitation will be at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home on Tuesday, Oct. 6, from 4 to

7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Jude Catholic Church on Wednesday, Oct. 7, at 10:30 a.m. As mandated by proclamation, social distancing must be practiced, which requires a limited number of people to be allowed into the visitation at one time. The use of face masks or shields is required. Entombment will be at Cedar Memorial Park Mausoleum. Full military honors will be conducted.

Lloyd was born Jan. 26, 1935, in Cedar Rapids, son of Lloyd J. and Mary (Grubhoffer) Bean. Lloyd married the love of his life Carol (Wegmann) on May 3, 1958. They were married 62 years.

Lloyd is survived by his wife, Carol; his sister, Linda (Larry) Guthrie; his children, Jeff (Rhonda) of Houston, Texas, Steve (Angela) of Mason, Ohio, and Amy (Paul) Prestel of Liberty Township, Ohio; his grandchildren, Patrick (fiancee Carly Norwood) Bean, Jeff (Kim) Bean, Mike (Mary) Bean, Katie (fiance Nick Doarn) Bean, Andrew Prestel and Garrett (Carrie) Warren; his great-grandson, Oliver Warren; his sisters-in-law, Jeanne Cox, Janice Russ and Judy (Mike) Foody; and brother-in-law, Merle (Pat) Wegmann.

Lloyd was a kind, caring and loving man. He was the best husband, father, grandfather and brother to us all. He was a true hero and the most faith-filled, prayerful man who we could ask for to be the head of our family. He will be cherished and deeply missed.

Lloyd graduated from McKinley High School in 1953 and later graduated from Kirkwood College. He is a veteran of the Korean War, serving as Sergeant in the United States Marines. Lloyd retired from the Cedar Rapids Fire Department in 1988 as the assistant fire chief. After retirement, he worked a few years for Iowa Realty.

Lloyd was a charter member of St. Jude Catholic Church. He was a lifetime member of the Iowa Fire Chiefs Association, the International Association of Fire Chiefs and the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of the Catholic Layman's Club, the VFW and the National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library.

Lloyd loved fishing and went many years with family and friends to Canada and other fishing locations. Lloyd was known for making the best fried walleye and was an excellent camp cook. He and Carol hosted many fun fish fries for friends and family over the years. Also, he and Carol enjoyed spending many winter months in the south.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Dorothy Mendez; brother, Ronald Bean; brothers-in-law, Laverne (Mary) Wegmann and Richard Wegmann; and sister-in-law, Mary (Don) Nefzger.
