CHARLES "CHUCK" LINCOLN SLATER

Charles "Chuck" Lincoln Slater, 91, of Marion, died Jan. 11, 2017. Memorial services: 2:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 20, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion. Visitation is one hour before the service.
Chuck was born Aug. 6, 1925, the son of Charles and Vera (Wright) Slater in Coggon. He graduated from Central City High School in 1942. Chuck served with the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1945. He then attended the University of Iowa, graduating in 1949. On June 12, 1949, he married Viola Janice Roszell in Marion. Chuck worked at Alliant Energy for 36 years. They raised three daughters, Lynda (Cal) Pearson of McCallsburg, Sandy (Phil) Krumm of Center Point and Nora (Marcos) Ramirez of Lubbock, Texas.
Chuck is survived by his daughters, Lynda and Sandy; six grandchildren, Lisa (Brian) Gates of Roland, Susan (Jeff) Bolen of El Paso, Texas, Kristy (Kent) Bruck of Omaha, Neb., Vicki (Andy) Henderson of Omaha, Tyler Ramirez of San Antonio, Texas, and Ashlynn Ramirez of Lubbock, Texas; and six great-grandchildren, Emma and Ella Bolen, Parker, Delaney and Grayson Bruck and Aiden Henderson.
Chuck was preceded in death by his wife, Viola; daughter, Nora Ramirez; parents; and siblings, Lois Erickson and Mack Slater.
