Slaughter, Marla Gale
Marla Gale Slaughter, 65, of Lone Tree, passed away Sunday, Sept. 26, 2010, at the Lone Tree Health Care Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the United Presbyterian Church in Lone Tree. Pastor Susan Barnes will officiate the services. Burial will be in the Lone Tree Cemetery. Following the committal services at the cemetery, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the Lone Tree American Legion. Visitation for Marla will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Sorden-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services, Lone Tree.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice or the American Cancer Society in memory of Marla.

Marla Gale Lantz was born on Sept. 19, 1945, in Terrell, Texas, the daughter of Donald Wesley and Evelyn “Tootsie” (Wiese) Lantz. On April 4, 1964, Marla was united in marriage to Gary Raymond Slaughter at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lone Tree. Marla was employed as a cosmetologist for 25 years and also worked for the University of Iowa of five years. Marla was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, Lone Tree Fireman's Auxiliary, National Cosmetology Association for 25 years, Iowa Cosmetology Education for 20 years, Iowa Affiliate #5 Board for four years and Iowa State Board Member for four years. She was an avid Hawkeye fan and enjoyed boating, camping and bowling, but most of all, Marla dearly loved spending time with her family, especially the grandchildren.
Marla will be deeply missed by her husband, Gary of Lone Tree; two children, Randy Raymond Slaughter and his wife, Jananne of Lone Tree, and Rodney Donald Slaughter and his wife, Elizabeth of Charlotte, N.C.; six grandchildren, Eric Slaughter, Aaron Slaughter, Emma Slaughter, Cole Williams, Amelia Slaughter and Ian Slaughter; one sister, Donna Vroom of Pella; and one brother, Ronald Lantz and his wife, Sheri of Battle Creek, Mich.
Marla was preceded in death by her parents and brother-in-law, Stan Vroom.
