Linn-Mar announces Hall class

MARION – Linn-Mar Community Schools' 2014 Athletic Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be held on Friday, between the sophomore and varsity boys basketball games.Here's a bio on the inductees:
Bob Carey: From 1968-1988, Bob Carey taught Junior High Social Studies at Linn-Mar. He coached Junior High football for 19 years and Freshman football for 1 year. He also coached Junior High basketball, baseball and softball. Bob served as Junior High Activities Director from 1975 until 1988. He was the IAHSAA State Association Jr. High Representative for the 1985-86 school year. Bob also served as the Linn-Mar Athletic Director for grades 7-12 from 1988 until 1994. He was named the IAHSAA Northeast Iowa Athletic Director of the Year for 1993-1994. He then served a stint as Associate Principal at Linn-Mar High School with the duties of supervising at home athletic contests, supervising non-athletic co-curricular activities and also serving as the Booster Club liaison. Bob retired in 1998, but continued service as a volunteer Junior High football coach. Bob continues to be a volunteer in the Linn-Mar press box at home Sophomore/Varsity football games.
Erin (Strellner) Stanley: Erin (Strellner) Stanley played softball and basketball at Linn-Mar. Erin was a two-year Varsity starter and letter winner in basketball. Erin really excelled in softball. She was a 5-year Varsity letter winner in softball where she pitched and played shortstop. Erin was All-Metro in 1998, 1999, 2000, and 2001. She earned MVC Conference Honors – as well as Honorable mention in 1997 and a First team selection in 1999, 2000, and 2001. She was the MVC Conference Player of the Year in 2001 while the Lions were Conference Champions. Erin also received All-State recognition honors: a 5th team selection in 1999, a first team selection in 2000 and was named to the Elite All-State team in 2001. Erin played in the 2001 IGHSAU All-Star game. Erin continued her softball career at the University of Northern Iowa where she was a four year starter for the Panthers. In fact, she started every game for 3 years at 3rd base. Erin received many honors at UNI. In 2003 and 2005 she was 2nd team All-Missouri Valley and was also named to the MVC Scholar Team. She was also awarded Honorable Mention in 2004. Erin was on the ESPN Magazine Academic All-American District Team and was voted the Team Most Valuable Player. Erin led the UNI team in hitting in 2003, 2004 and 2005 with a career .366 average. Erin graduated from UNI with a BA in Psychology and received her MA in Organizational Leadership from St. Ambrose University. She is currently living in Brookings, South Dakota where she serves as the Assistant Softball Coach for South Dakota State University.
Brad Reid: Brad Reid earned a total of 14 Varsity letters at Linn-Mar. He participated in football, wrestling, and baseball for 4 years and golf and track for 2 years. Brad was All-Conference and All-Metro in football for 2 years while also being named All-State his senior year. He was the Conference Champion in the 200 and 400 meter dash and earned All-State honors in the 200 meter dash. Brad was also an All-Conference and All-Metro Baseball selection. Brad is currently a PGA Golf Professional – which he has been doing for the past 25 years. He is currently the Golf Professional at the National Links Golf Club in Springfield, Ohio. He also is the Head Girls Golf Coach at Shawnee High School.
Amy (Osenbaugh) Brinkmeyer: Amy (Osenbaugh) Brinkmeyer graduated from Linn-Mar in 1990. She participated in volleyball, basketball and track. She was 2nd Team All-Metro and MVC in volleyball and basketball. Amy set the single game scoring record in basketball in 1989 – which stood for numerous years until Kiah Stokes broke the record in 2010. She threw the discus and ran sprints in track. Her high school athletic career ended with running in the 4 x 400 relay – and she is forever grateful to Coach Pilcher for giving her the chance. Amy also received the prestigious Wally Prather Award her senior year. Amy graduated from Mt. Mercy College in 1994 with a major in Marketing and a minor in Spanish. She was inducted into the Mt. Mercy Hall of Fame following a successful volleyball career. Amy spends her time now as the official scorekeeper for the Mt. mercy basketball programs. She has done some freelance writing and in her spare time she enjoys practicing yoga, writing, and organizing anything she can get her hands on.
Arnold 'Tex' McCoy: Arnold 'Tex' McCoy was first employed at Linn-Mar in the fall of 1962 – and at that time Linn-Mar did not have a very established athletic program because it was a fairly new high school. In fact Linn-Mar was known as 'Cow Pie High' because it was a new school in the country. Arnold worked at the Junior High and coached football and wrestling from 1962-1967. He served as the High School Athletic Director from 1967 – 1970, and was the Head Sophomore Football Coach and Junior High Assistant Basketball Coach with Jim Dettbarn from 1967-1973. His record at the Sophomore football level was 35-21-2. In 1974, he was appointed to the position of Head Varsity Football Coach. His 1974 team went 8-1 and were Co-ECIC Champs. Arnold was the ECIC and Metro Coach of the Year. In 1975, his team went 9-2 and won the ECIC Conference Championship. That team was ranked number one by the Des Moines Register and Tribune newspapers in their preseason poll. They were a State Football Semi-Finalist which was the first year Linn-Mar ever made it to the playoffs. Arnold was again voted the ECIC Coach of the Year. His 1976 and 1977 teams went 8-1 and were ECIC Champs and he again was voted ECIC Coach of the Year in 1977. Arnold also served as an assistant coach for baseball under Nevin Roberts and track under Clark Weaver from 1974-1978. He left Linn-Mar in 1979 and went to Mt. Pleasant, Texas, where he served as Line Coach, Offensive Coordinator and Assistant Head Football Coach. Arnold moved to Athens, Texas, in 1983, where he served as Athletic Director and Director of Physical Education for the District. In 1990, he resigned his duties as Athletic Director and began his new role as Director of Special Programs for the district – which included working on Vocational and Federal programs. Arnold retired in 2000, after 38 years in education.
Scott Underwood: Scott Underwood participated in football, basketball, track, and baseball while at Linn-Mar. In football Scott earned 2 Varsity letters. In his senior year Scott was a Des Moines Register, Iowa Daily Press Association, and Iowa Coaches Association 1st Team All-State Selection and was chosen to participate in the Iowa All-State Shrine Bowl. Scott was also a Varsity letter winner for 1 year in baseball and 2 years in track. In track Scott was a member of a 4 x 400 relay team that held a 20-year record until it was recently broken. That same 4 x 400 relay team earned a 3rd place finish at the Drake Relays. Scott earned 2 varsity letters in basketball and was a member of the 1983 State Championship Team. He also received the prestigious Wally Prather Award his senior year. After graduating from Linn-Mar, Scott attended Augustana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on a football scholarship. After graduating, he joined the coaching staff at Augustana. Scott had subsequent coaching stops at the University of Sioux Falls and the University of North Dakota. He landed at St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud Minnesota. Scott has been employed with the football program at St. Cloud since 2001, and just completed his 6th season as the Head Football Coach. This past (2013) season was a historic season as Scott's squad reached the quarterfinals of the Division II playoffs for the first time in school history. Scott was recognized as Coach of the Year in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference in 2013 and was also a Liberty Mutual Coach of the year Finalist in 2011.
John Kress: John Kress was a four year letter winner in gymnastics, and also participated in swimming and baseball for the Lions. He set a number of scoring records in gymnastics and competed on two State Championship Gymnastics teams. John was captain of the gymnastic team his senior year when they won their second championship. He was a State Individual Gymnastic Champion in the floor exercise, parallel bars, and the high bar and a State Runner-up in the vault and pommel horse. John was also the all-around gymnastic competition runner-up. John was honored as the Athlete of the Week by the Cedar Rapids Gazette. After graduating from Linn-Mar in 1982, John attended the U.S. Air Force Academy and graduated in 1986. During his Air Force career, John served overseas and in locations in the United States including New Mexico, the Pentagon and Colorado. John retired from the Air Force in Colorado Springs having the rank of Colonel. John is now working as a contracted program analyst supporting the Air Force.
Lindsey Digmann: Lindsey Digmann participated in volleyball, basketball, track, and softball while at Linn-Mar. She played basketball for two years, volleyball and track for four years and softball for five years earning a grand total of 12 varsity letters. Lindsey was MVC Honorable Mention for volleyball in 2004 and MVC All-Academic in 2005. She was also selected to the IGHSAU All-Academic Volleyball Team in 2005. During her track career, Lindsey qualified for the Drake Relays in 2003, 2005, and 2006. She was a State Qualifier in 2003 (3 events), 2004 (4 events), 2005 (4 events), and 2006 (4 events). Lindsey was an All-Metro Track selection in 2004, 2005 and 2006. She was named the MVC Athlete of the Year for track in 2005 and 2006 and was MVC All-Academic in 2005 and 2006. Lindsey was an IGHSAU All-Academic Track selection in 2005 as well. In softball, Lindsey made the Elite Eight Softball Classic All-Tournament Team in 2005 and 2006. She played on three State Tournament teams and was named to the State All-Tournament team in 2006. Lindsey was MVC 1st Team All-Conference and All-District in 2004, 2005, and 2006. She was the MVC Athlete of the Year in 2005, and was named 1st Team All-State in 2005 as well as 1st Team Elite All-State in 2006. She was named MVC All-Academic in 2006. Lindsey graduated from Linn-Mar and accepted a softball scholarship from the University of Iowa where she enjoyed a tremendous career. After graduating from the University of Iowa, Lindsey was an Assistant Varsity Softball coach for Linn-Mar in 2011 and 2012. Lindsey currently teaches U.S. History and Government at Western Dubuque High School. She is also the 8th grade Volleyball coach at Drexel Middle School and Assistant Varsity Softball Coach at Western Dubuque High School.
Jordan Printy Jordan Printy played basketball at Linn-Mar for four years and was a varsity starter for three years. The 2005 team he played with was State runner-up and compiled a record of 24-2. In 2006, the Lions finished 4th at the State Tournament with Jordan's help. He was a 3rd Team All-State selection and a 1st Team All-Metro and MVC Conference selection that year. Jordan was a standout player on the 2007 team that won the State Championship and finished the season with a 24-1 record. Jordan was named Captain of the All-Tournament Class 4A team. Jordan received 1st Team All-State honors and was a 1st Team All-Metro and MVC selection. Jordan finished his career scoring 1,007 points. Jordan graduated from Linn-Mar and accepted a basketball scholarship to Indiana State University. The 2011 Indiana State team he played on won the MVC Tournament and played in the 2011 NCAA Tournament. He was named to the 1st Team All MVC Scholar Athlete team in 2011 and 2012. Jordan ended his career at Indiana State as the second ranked all-time in 3-point shots made with 215. Jordan currently teaches Social Studies at Linn-Mar High School.
