Dennis A. Gudenkauf, 75, of Manchester, passed away Tuesday, March 1, 2016, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Mass of Christian Burial: 11 a.m. Friday, March 4, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Manchester. Visitation: 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 3, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Manchester, where there will be a 2 p.m. Scripture service. Friends also may call one hour before Mass Friday at the church. Interment with military rites: St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Manchester.
He was born Nov. 27, 1940, in Worthington, the son of Walter and Lucinda (Recker) Gudenkauf. Dennis graduated from Ryan High School in 1958. He served honorably in the U.S. Army. Dennis was united in marriage to Judith A. Foust on Nov. 7, 1962, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Manchester. Three children were born to this union. Together they farmed west of Manchester for many years. Dennis and Judy also operated Manchester Farm Equipment from 1969 to 1986.
Dennis was a longtime member of St. Mary Catholic Church, where he served on the parish council and was a past president. He was active with the Manchester American Legion Post No. 45 and on the county veterans board. Dennis enjoyed and loved his family. He and Judy faithfully attended their children's and grandchildren's activities. Dennis also enjoyed deer hunting with his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Judy Gudenkauf of Manchester; his three children, June (fiance Dave Stamy) Zenisek of Cedar Rapids, Rob (Susan) Gudenkauf of Manchester and Tom (Maria) Gudenkauf of Coralville; nine grandchildren, Megan (Nate) Lahr, Wes (Katie) Gudenkauf, Sarah (fiance Ryan Kelley) Zenisek, Hillary Gudenkauf, Eric Zenisek, Lyndsey Gudenkauf, Alex Gudenkauf, Ryan Gudenkauf and Nathan Gudenkauf; one great-granddaughter, Brooklyn Lahr; three brothers, Gerald (Ann) Gudenkauf of Manchester, Raymond (Sally) Gudenkauf of Ryan and Elmer "Jerry" (Dianne) Gudenkauf of Cheyenne, Wyo.; and three sisters, Mary Ann (Edward) Schulte of Manchester, Grace Pruss of Marion and Alice (Lawrence) Sperfslage of Strawberry Point.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Lester Gudenkauf.
