Beitz, Elma May
Elma May Beitz, 94, of Hopkinton, died Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2010, at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester. Services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 30, at Buck Creek United Methodist Church in Hopkinton. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Goettsch Funeral Home in Monticello. The Rev. Lorraine Hartman will officiate at the service. Interment will be at Buck Creek Cemetery.
Surviving are her children, Leon (Sharon) Beitz of Hopkinton, Maynard (Calista) Beitz of Fort Collins, Colo., Charlotte Emerson of Cedar Rapids, Donna (Chuck) Hettinger of Greeley, Colo., Diane Beitz of Manchester and Gerald (Susan) Beitz of Monticello; a daughter-in-law, Verna Beitz of Buck Creek; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; several stepgrandchildren, stepgreat-grandchildren and stepgreat-great-grandchildren; two special grandchildren, Hans (Kris) Christen of (Tennessee) Switzerland and Frank (Tanja) Mohr and their children, Jannik and Joris of Germany; and Lacy (the bird).
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Everett in 1990; two children, Kenneth Dean (in infancy) and Norman in 1993; a sister, Marion Stahlberg; two brothers, Nelson and Raymond Porter; a son-in-law, Dorrance Emerson; and two grandchildren, Annette Kay and Rodney Scott Beitz.
Elma May Porter was born Dec. 2, 1915, in Hopkinton, Iowa, the daughter of Lewis and Ida (Ratcliff) Porter. She was a 1934 graduate of Buck Creek High School. On July 2, 1935, Elma Porter and Everett Beitz were united in marriage in Manchester. Elma was a member of the WSCS, Delaware County Historical Society and helped out with neighborhood Cancer Society drives. She was a life long member of Buck Creek United Methodist Church.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and friend. Elma will be dearly missed by those closest to her.
