Bader, Bernice
Bernice Bader, 67, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2011, at Jones Regional Hospital, Anamosa, with her family by her side. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 5, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Monticello, with interment in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Goettsch Funeral Home, where there will be a 7:30 p.m. Scripture service. The Rev. Keith Birch will officiate at the services.

Surviving are two children, Mike (Teresa) Bader and Michelle Bader, all of Monticello; two grandchildren, Lauren and Steven; two sisters, Dorothy Fitzsimmons of Monticello, and Veronica (Pete) Hansen of Maquoketa; a sister-in-law, Margaret Gravel of Center Junction; and a special niece, Patty Gassman.
Also surviving are the Bader family in-laws, John (Donna) Bader, Sharon (Bob) Hasler, Carol (Charles) Fairbanks, Gail (Don) Nederhiser, Dorothy (Roger) Rupp and Jo Bader.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Larry in 2005; a brother, Tony Gravel; and a sister, Mary Prull.
Bernice Marie Gravel was born Feb. 21, 1943, at Prairieburg, Iowa. She was the daughter David and Marcella Laban Gravel. Bernice attended Sacred Heart Catholic School and graduated with the class of 1961. She then went on to Paris Beauty Academy in Cedar Rapids. Bernice operated her beauty shop in Hopkinton for several years. On June 22, 1963, Bernice married Larry Bader at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Monticello. After raising her family, Bernice re-entered the work force as a secretary bookkeeper at Bob's Feeds and Hearn Tire. She then did a career change and worked in the school lunch program in the Monticello Middle School until 2009. She has been a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was a former Camp Fire Leader.
The family would like to thank Above and Beyond Hospice and the Jones Regional Medical Center for all their care and support during Bernice's illness.
