Harold Eugene Gilbert, 96, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, March 17, 2018, at The Meth-Wick Community in Cedar Rapids. There will be no services at this time.
Harold was born Aug. 16, 1921, the son of Irl and Blanche (McCabe) Gilbert, in Larrabee, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1945 to 1946. On Aug. 14, 1946, he was married to Ruby Johnson in Cherokee, Iowa. She passed away in 2004. Harold worked as the district manager for Iowa-Illinois, now Mid-American Energy, before retiring in 1985. He volunteered with fundraising for the American Red Cross and the YMCA. Harold enjoyed playing golf and racquetball in his spare time.
Survivors include his two sons, Edwin (Susan) Gilbert and Paul (Cynthia) Gilbert; and two granddaughters, Diana Gilbert and Jolene (Drew Bruno) Gilbert-Bruno.
He was preceded in death by his wife and parents.
