Harold Vincent Bartz, 94, of Elberon, Iowa, fell asleep in Jesus on Saturday, March 29, 2014, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Private family services will be held at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Private burial: New Hampton Cemetery.

Survivors include his children, Vincent Bartz of San Francisco, Calif., Loretta (Darrell) Rankin of Erie, Colo., Barclay (Stacey) Bartz of Cedar Falls, Brenda (Tom) Miller of Luzerne, Brent (Mary Kay) Bartz of Cedar Rapids and Brian (Michelle) Bartz of Independence; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Michael (Alice) Bartz of New Hampton and Mary Kautzer of Nekoosa, Wis.

Harold was preceded in death by his wife, Susann; a son who died in infancy, Stephen; his parents; and a sister, Bernice Buhr.

Harold and Sue were baptized into the Church of God (Faith of Abraham) by Brother Linford Moore in 1966.

While Harold was serving in the U.S. Army and stationed at Fort Leonard Wood in Waynesville, Mo., he met and then married Susann L. McNeese on Sept. 4, 1942.

Harold's military service with the U.S. Army was from 1940 to 1945, during World War II. He participated in the Normandy Beach landings and his unit, the 4th Armored Division, received a commendation for their valiant efforts in the Battle of the Bulge.

Harold was born July 7, 1919, in New Hampton, Iowa, the son of Michael and Minnie (Johnson) Bartz. Harold was actively involved in farming his entire life. He farmed in New Hampton, Fredericksburg, Denver, La Porte City and finally in Elberon. The most important thing to Harold was his family. He loved big family gatherings, holiday celebrations and playing cards. He was always there for his family as a supportive father and husband. Harold and Susann especially loved ballroom dancing together and now they are able to dance together again.
