Republican presidential hopeful Ted Cruz leads in Iowa, according to a new poll, the second over the past two weeks that's put the Texas senator out front.
A CBS News released Sunday, poll said Cruz had the support of 40 percent of likely GOP caucusgoers, while Donald Trump was at 31 percent. Marco Rubio was third at 12 percent and Ben Carson was next at 6 percent. All the other candidates were at 2 percent or below.
The poll was conducted Dec. 14-17 by YouGov, an online polling organization, and has a margin of error of plus or minus 5.3 percentage points.
A Des Moines Register/Bloomberg Politics poll, released a little more than a week ago, had Cruz with a 10 point lead over Trump, 31 percent to 21 percent. But the other candidates were doing better than in the CBS News poll. Two other polls this month, from Public Policy Polling and Quinnipiac University, said that Trump was leading Cruz, but only by a small margin.
Cruz recently has won the endorsement of some prominent Iowa Republicans, including Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa, and Bob Vander Plaats, president and CEO of the Family Leader.
The caucuses will be Feb. 1.
