Insult aimed at Iowa voters posted on Trump’s Twitter account

Oct. 22, 2015 5:46 pm
DES MOINES - Have Iowa Republican voters' brains been impaired by eating genetically modified corn?
That's the implication in a social media post that was relayed Thursday by the official account of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.
The following post was originally published by what appears to be a random Twitter user, then reposted by Trump's official Twitter account:
'#BenCarson is now leading in the #polls in #Iowa. Too much #Monsanto in the #corn creates issues in the brain? #Trump #GOP”
The tweet, originally posted by Twitter user @mygreenhippo, appears to deride Iowa GOP voters shortly after a new Quinnipiac University Poll showed Carson overtaking Trump for the lead in the field of Republican presidential candidates.
Trump's Twitter account eventually deleted the reposted tweet and posted an apology, blaming a campaign intern.
'The young intern who accidentally did a Retweet apologizes,” the tweet said.
Monsanto is an agriculture company that produces genetically modified crop seeds.
The Quinnipiac poll, which was published early Thursday, showed Carson leading Trump atop the GOP field, 28 percent to 20 percent. That's a flip of the previous Quinnipiac poll in September, which showed Trump leading Carson, 27 percent to 21 percent.
