Allen, Arthur C.
Arthur C. Allen, 94, of Coralville, died peacefully Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2011, at his home.
Arthur was born Jan. 5, 1917, in Blencoe, Iowa, the son of Hiram and Lena (Holten) Allen. At an early age he went to work to help support his family. During World War II he served with the Army Air Corps in England. He was united in marriage to Benita Heal in 1949, in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. The couple moved to rural Coralville in 1950, where Arthur worked on the Oakdale farm for a number of years. He then worked for the University of Iowa at the Quadrangle as a custodian for over 15 years, retiring in 1973. He has always enjoyed gardening, photography and fishing.
His family includes a stepson, David Heal (Sharon) of Iowa City; stepdaughter, Thea Ferguson (Jay) of Newton, Kan.; stepdaughter-in-law, Sally Heal of McKinney, Texas; brothers, Lloyd Allen of Kelso, Wash., and Bud Allen and Evert Allen, both of Onawa; sisters, Amy Pierce of Kelso, Wash., and Jessie Allen of Turin; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Benita; stepson, Michael Heal; and 10 brothers and sisters.
A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
