Gene Herman Dirks, 80, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2020, at Mercy Medical Center. Per his wishes he has been cremated.
Gene was born Dec. 4, 1940, in Monticello, Iowa, the son of Herman and Alice (Benedict) Dirks. At a young age, Gene and his family moved to Marion, Iowa, and he went to Marion High School, where he graduated with the Class of 1959. After graduating, he went to work for Collins Radio. It was there where he met the love of his life, MaryAnn Kalusky. Gene and MaryAnn married Nov. 4, 1961. He retired from Rockwell Collins after 40 years of service.
He enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs and the Green Bay Packers. He loved the time he spent with his family.
He is survived by his daughters, Lisa (K.C.) Munsell and Robyn Kisling; grandson, Branden Kisling; sister-in-law, Alice Kalusky; his cousins; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, MaryAnn; his parents; and his brother, Gary.
