Henik, Robert David 'Bob' Jr.
Robert David “Bob” Henik Jr., 76, died peacefully surrounded by family, Wednesday Nov. 7, 2012, in his Mount Vernon home after a courageous battle with cancer. Bob's Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Mount Vernon, by the Rev. Tom Zinkula. Bob's visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Morgan Funeral Choices, Mount Vernon Chapel with a prayer service beginning at 7 p.m. Bob's burial will be in St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery, Lisbon.
Surviving Bob are his wife, Elaine; two children, Denise (Dan) Brannaman and Mark (Lisa) Henik, both of Mount Vernon; seven grandchildren, Clint, Cody and Kyle Henik, Ben (Brittany), Alex, Cory and Jenna Brannaman; and two great-grandchildren, Riley and Reese Brannaman.
Preceding Bob in death were his parents; and two infant children, Marilyn and Kevin Henik.
Bob was born Sept. 22, 1936, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Bob and Ida Schley Henik. He graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1954, and married Elaine Krob, June 12, 1956, at St. John's Catholic Church, Lisbon. Bob was a member of the Iowa National Guard and St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
Bob and Elaine farmed the Henik family farm west of Mount Vernon. Bob was a passionate steward of the land and he loved animals. He was meticulous in his care whether it was mowing, painting or making improvements around the farm. Bob had a strong work ethic and was always willing to lend a helping hand. Above all, Bob's top priority was always his family.
A memorial fund in Bob's honor has been established.
Bob has requested casual attire for the visitation and funeral - jeans and even bibs are welcome.
