Marlys Garrettson, 86, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Friday, Aug. 4, 2017, at Living Center West, Cedar Rapids. Funeral service: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, with visitation 30 minutes prior, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. The Rev. Mark Ortgies will officiate. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Marlys was born Feb. 17, 1931, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Ruth Derringer Mitchel. In April 1947, she married Harold Martin Garrettson. He passed away June 25, 2013. Marlys was a minister and a member of the Open Bible Church for over 45 years.
She is survived by her daughter, Carol Burke of Mission Viejo, Calif.; grandchildren, Kristin Marsh, Kara Schwab, Tim Burke and Peter Burke; 11 great-grandchildren; and her half sisters, Pat Eyerly and Peggy Lee.
Marlys was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.
