Lamb, Willis Eugene
Willis Eugene Lamb, 84, died Thursday, July 25, 2013, in his home surrounded by his family.
He is survived by his daughters, Lisa K. Lamb of Cedar Rapids and Laura Stradling (Nelson) of Kent, Wash.; two grandchildren, Devin and Shannon Rammelsberg; his sister, Joyce Steele (William) of Long Boat Key, Fla..; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Willis was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sheryl Chehak Lamb; and his parents, Willis D. and Iris Ford Lamb.
Willis was born in Boone, Iowa on Jan. 17, 1929. He graduated in 1947 from Franklin High School. He attended Coe College for two years and left to join S.S. Kresge in Chicago. He was drafted into the Army in 1951, serving with the 8th U.S. Army in Korea, was injured and hospitalized for 13 months. He was discharged in October 1952.
He married Sheryl Chehak, the love of his life, on Aug. 22, 1953. They were married for 54 years. Sheryl worked as a pharmacist while Willis finished the last two years at Coe College, where he received his degree. Willis entered the insurance business where he served his friends and clients for over 30 years. He was a partner in the Davis, Jones, Lamb Insurance Agency, now True North.
In his earlier years Willis enjoyed playing golf and tennis. He loved to play bridge with his friends at the club and bridge groups. He and Sheryl enjoyed traveling extensively. He was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church, Cedar Rapids Country Club and American Legion.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to our aunt, Nancy Skogsbergh, special friend, Paul Phelan, Comfort Care and St. Luke's Hospice, especially Beth.
The Memorial Service will be held at First Presbyterian Church at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, by the Rev. Thomas E.S. Miller.
In lieu of flowers, memorials maybe sent to St. Luke's Hospice or Willis Eugene Lamb Endowment Fund at Coe College, 1220 First Ave. NE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52402.
