Schultz, Denton E.
Denton E. Schultz, 77, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2011, at St. Luke's Hospital following a long illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Teahen Funeral Home, with Pastor Rick Gail officiating. Burial: Dysart Cemetery. Friends may visit from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and after 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Military honors will be conducted by American Legion post 727.
Denton is survived by his wife, Joan; two daughters, Shelley Schultz of Cedar Rapids and Laurie Schultz of Aurora, Colo.; four sisters, Margaret Schultz of Cedar Rapids, Marilyn Benishek of Belle Plaine, Ona (Lawrence) Danker of Cedar Rapids and Shirley (Raymond) Larsen of Grinnell; and many nieces and nephews.
Denton was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Bill and John Schultz; and a sister, Bette Schultz.
Denton was born Nov. 23, 1933, in Bryant, S.D., the son of William and Emma (Pauls) Schultz. He married Joan Rammelsberg on Feb. 5, 1960, in Nashua at the Little Brown Church. He retired in 1985 after 25 years as a detective for the Cedar Rapids Police Department.
Denton was a member of the Izaak Walton League, Otter Creek Gun Club and a longtime member of Pheasants Forever. He enjoyed trap shooting and spending time with his friends, especially his ice cream buddies.
Denton was a great husband and dad and his family and friends will miss him dearly.
Denton's family would like to thank Dr. Matthew Anderson, Dr. Mohit Chawla and St. Luke's Heart Center and their staffs for their wonderful care.
