Matheny, James Howard Sr.

James Howard Matheny Sr., 76, a resident of Heritage Nursing and Rehab Center died Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2011, following a brief illness. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Monday, Sept. 19, at the Oakland Church of the Nazarene. Family and friends may attend a visitation starting at 3 p.m. Pastor Steve Mounts will officiate the service and a private family burial at a later time.

Survivors include five sons, James Matheny Jr. of Fresno, Calif., Steve (Linda) Matheny of Peoria, Ariz., Guy (Brenda) Boots of Lee Summitt, Mo., Robert (Mary) Boots of Newhall, and Dale (Raven) Matheny of Cedar Rapids; four daughters, Anita (Steve) Mounts of Auberry, Calif., Dawn (Mark) Burian of Cedar Rapids, Carolyn (Perry) West of Marion, and Lisa (Ron) Phelps of Olathe, Kan.; 24 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

James was preceded in death by his parents and spouse, Jean Loraine.

James was born Sept. 25, 1934, in Mitchell, S.D., the son of Harvey and Ruth Skinner Matheny. He married Jean Loraine Gaspard on April 17, 1972. James worked as a machinist for Cherry-Burrell and was a member of the Oakland Church of the Nazarene.

A memorial fund has been established.
