Trudy Ann Laffoon, 65, of Iowa City, died Thursday, Dec. 17, 2020, at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics surrounded by family. Private family memorial services will be at
2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 28, at First United Methodist Church, Iowa City, with the Rev. Dr. Barrie Tritle officiating. The service will
be available to view online via Zoom. Trudy was born May 6, 1955, in Abingdon, Ill., the daughter of Harold and Cathern (Petrie) Griffeth. She was a graduate of Washington High School in Washington, Iowa, where she was active in cheerleading and twirling.
Trudy received her doctorate of nursing while working as a nurse manager at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. She was a member of multiple boards and committees, published in several medical journals and won numerous awards. She also taught nursing at Kirkwood Community College.
At a young age, Trudy had a passion for swimming and diving. More recently, she enjoyed going to Hawkeye sporting events, spending time outdoors, gardening and camping. She also participated in many service projects and was actively involved in her church. Most importantly, Trudy enjoyed spending time with friends and family.
Trudy is survived by her children, Amanda, Alex (Ally) and Zach Laffoon; grandchildren, Dominic and Addison; her partner, Gary Hammann; and Gary's four children and four grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Cathern Griffeth; and her former husband, John Laffoon.
