EVELYN M. (BEAR) RICHARD

Evelyn M. (Bear) Richard, 87, of Garnett Place in Cedar Rapids, formerly of Newhall, died Saturday, Oct. 29, 2016, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 31, at St. John Lutheran Church in Newhall, with the Rev. Steven Rempfer officiating. Interment will be in Yates Center Cemetery, Yates Center, Kan. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until service time Monday at the church in Newhall.
Evelyn was born Nov. 11, 1928, in Fayette, Iowa, to Edgar F. and Ina (Deaton) Matthews, and graduated from Fayette High School in 1946.
She married Owen Bear in June 1949 in Oelwein. On April 27, 1970, Evelyn was united in marriage to Wallace F. Richard in Cedar Rapids. Wallace preceded Evelyn in death in 1988. Evelyn worked at Wilson's, later Farmstead Foods in Cedar Rapids from 1968 until the plant closed.
Evelyn was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Newhall. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed gardening, fishing, camping and listening to country music. Her greatest joy was time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by two sons, Mike (Jan) Bear of Marion and Albert (Renee) Bear of Van Horne; two daughters, Becky (Doug) Franck of Fairfax and Vicki (Bob) Siek of Grand River, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Ralph Doubek, and her brother, Eugene Deaton.
The family would like to thank Pastor Rempfer and Holly, St. John Tabitha Society, Garnett Place, Keystone Nursing Care Center, and Hospice of Mercy for their loving care of Evelyn.
