Betty Mae Caldwell Meyer, 91, of Mount Vernon, passed away at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on Dec. 11, 2014. Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 16, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Morgan Funeral & Cremation Choices, Mount Vernon. Memorial services will be held at the Mount Vernon United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 17. Lunch will be served following the services. A private family interment will be held at Campbell Cemetery.
Betty was born May 4, 1923, in rural Lisbon, Iowa, the daughter of Albert "Tink" and Esther (Daubenmier) Stoneking. She was united in marriage to R. Paul Caldwell on June 7, 1940. Two children were born to that union, Judith and Robert. Betty married Arthur W. Meyer on June 26, 1969. His children, Steven and Douglas, joined this union.
Betty's career included working for many years at Collins Radio, and she retired as a valuable employee of the Cornell College Admissions Office in Mount Vernon. She was an active member of Mount Vernon United Methodist Church, Mount Vernon American Legion Auxiliary, Model A Club and Antique Automobile Club of America.
Survivors include her children, Judith Caldwell Penn (friend, Ralph Morse) of Cedar Rapids and Robert Caldwell of Mount Vernon; stepchildren, Steven Meyer (Maureen) of North Liberty and Douglas Meyer of Hinesville, Ga.; grandchildren, Robert Penn of Cedar Rapids and Julie Penn Johnson (Eric) of Marion; step-grandchildren, Melissa Meyer Plummer (Glenn) of North Liberty and Heath Meyer (Nicki) of Coralville; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandsons. Survivors also include a niece, Pearl Zingula Brown; nephew, David Zingula; and sister-in-law, Marjorie Meyer of Wisconsin.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands Paul Caldwell and Arthur Meyer; and siblings, Geraldine Zingula and Donald Stoneking.
