Vick, Eugene K.
Eugene K. Vick, 87, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, Dec. 13, 2009 at St. Luke's Hospital. Cancer did not diminish him but sent him to a better place. Services: 11 a.m. Thursday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories by the Rev. David Grandon. Interment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Gene is survived by daughter, Jinty (Mike) Rowray of Marion; son, Raymond (Diane) Vick of Cedar Rapids; five grandchildren, Deborah Rowray, Heather (Christopher) Lynxweiler, Elliott Rowray, Melonie (Greg) Stoll and Miranda Vick; great-grandchildren, Irish, Lily and Aben.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Alta; two brothers, Elmer and Leonard; and two sisters, Alice Wilson and Irene Travis.
Gene was born Feb. 19, 1922, in Cedar Rapids, to William and Emma Vick. He graduated from Springville High School in 1939. Gene then received a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering from Iowa State College in 1943. He served two years during World War II as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Navy stationed at the US Naval Research Station in Washington, D.C. At this time he met and married Alta Elliott of Brunswick, Manie. They returned to Cedar Rapids in 1945. He was employed by Collins Radio Company until he retired in 1982.
Gene was always learning and interested in new technology. He could frequently be found on the Internet. His greatest love was his family.
